Hydro Afro Reggae band was originally formed by
Joseph Sarpong (keyboards), Daniel Yeboah (bass), in June 2003. As
longtime friends, they had performed together and with different
bands both in United States and back home in Ghana, West Africa.
This union of two extremely talented musicians was the beginning of
one of the Chicago’s best Reggae bands. From their very first
performance, they began to spark the interest of Chicago Reggae club
owners and fans with their unique sound. Since its origination,
Hydro has grown into a six piece band featuring Ras Nash and Jooki
on lead vocal. The addition of new band members further enhanced the
sound, versatility and performance of this already outstanding band,
combining the styles of African, Jamaican and American cultures,
including Jazz, R&B, Reggae, and African music. Invitations for
performances began rolling in for festivals and clubs in Illinois,
Ohio, Indiana, Kentucky and Michigan.
Hydro Afro Reggae band rapid popularity led them to be nominated
“Best Reggae Band” of 2005 by Martin Intercultural Chicago Music
Awards, after a very short existence. With their energetic stage
performance and dynamic sound, Hydro will quickly captivate the
hearts of music lovers worldwide.
