Tropidelic is the brain child and evolving musical concept of
its founder, composer and guitarist, Cesar Pena. Formerly known as
Pena Worldbeat, this band has performed at numerous venues in
Michigan, Ohio and Ontario, Canada, such as the Fisher and Gem
Theaters in Detroit, the Art Tatum Heritage Jazz Festival in Toledo
and numerous clubs in Detroit, Windsor, Ann Arbor and Royal Oak. The
music is Latino based world music with jazz and American influences.
In the1980s, Cesar toured the U.S.A., Canada, Scandinavia and Europe
with blues legend, Albert King, opening for great acts such as B.B.
King, Bobby Bluebland and Etta James.
Also on guitar is Ellie Epstein, Wayne State University, who has
studied locally with Steve Carrier, Dan Pliskow and Paul Abbler.
Ellie has performed with such singers as Vanessa Johnson and Joan
Crawford.
On acoustic and electric bass is Lous Smoltz, who has performed with
the Bill Heid Quartet, Larry Smith and the Harvey Reed Group in such
locations as Burt's Place, Baker's Keyboard Lounge and the Detroit
Montreaux Jazz Festival.
Tropidelic also includes a drummer and percussion player. They will
guarantee to have your attendee dancing from the first note. They
will leave a lasting impression with their Latin beats pounding
through.
