Tumboa Bravo
What’s that? You want Latin Jazz with swing? The Detroit based Tumbao Bravo ensemble hears you and will deliver the goods. “Give the drummer some” is a James Brown adage that applies to Tumbao Bravo, the sparkling Detroit – area Latin Jazz band. Any purveyor of Latin music better have a swingin’ timekeeper. Tumbao Bravo has two, Javier Barrios and Alberto Nacif. They provide crisp and compelling work on timbales, congas and other percussion, giving the ensemble its rhythmic drive.
Tumbao Bravo is a six piece Cuban Jazz combo consisting of piano, bass, timbales, congas, bongos, flute, sax and trumpet. Tumbao Bravo was formed in August 2003 by conguero Alberto Nacif and reedman Paul VornHagen. Tumbao Bravo won the 2005 Detroit Music Awards for “Outstanding Latin Jazz CD”. They have performed at all the major jazz clubs and festivals in the Midwest including Baker’s Keyboard Lounge, the Firefly Club and at the Detroit Jazz festival.
